WIPO PCT – MADRID Roving Seminar

A seminar titled ‘Unlocking Global Opportunities for Indian Innovators and Businesses: WIPO IP Services for Protecting Inventions and Trademarks Abroad’ was organised by the Office Of The Controller General Of Patents, Designs And Trade Marks (CGPDTM) and the World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO, in association with the ASSOCHAM (The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India) on March 13, 2025.

The seminar covered a diverse range of topics, with senior WIPO and Indian IP Office officials outlining how international systems for trademark and patent registration can be very advantageous for Indian businesses aiming for global protection. Insights into procedural requirements and practical steps involved in filing applications under the Madrid and PCT system were also outlined.

Snehal Nigam of Remfry & Sagar participated as a panelist in the session titled “Industry Perspective: Panel Discussion on the Madrid System Experience” and shared first-hand experience on handling filings through the Madrid System, highlighting its advantages, challenges faced and possible changes to consider. The session was moderated by Dr. Pawan Kumar Pandey from the CGPDTM, and several valuable insights were had from other panelists – Vikrant Rana, Natasha Bali, Riddhi Rattan and Malayshree Shridharan.
